Victory for Sheffield electricians

22 December 2014

Unite electricians based at Amey Council Work depot Olive Grove Sheffield have now settled their dispute, reports Sheffield Trades Council. The settlement follows a one-day strike on 1 December, with threats of more to come unless Amey came up with an acceptable offer. Another strike had been due on 22 December, but the company settled shortly before.

The Unite members, who are street lighting electricians, have accepted an improved offer from management of a 3.7 per cent pay rise from 1 January 2015.

Mark Keeling, Unite Convenor at Amey Sheffield, summed up the feeling: “In the words of Tony Woodley [Unite general secretary], if we fight we may lose; if we don’t fight we will lose. These guys fought and won.’
