Billions that could and should be invested in productive work is diverted into paying people not to work.

Nearly a million young people are not in work, education or training. And around one in six working-age adults, 6.7 million individuals, are now claiming at least one out-of-work benefit

‘Only one in five news jobs went to UK citizens.’

The Centre for Social Justice think tank has found that of the 3.7 million jobs added since 2014, only 734,000 went to UK citizens – one in five. Workers from outside the EU took 2.5 million positions. EU nationals took another 408,000.

The 250-page State of Dependency report is based on Department of Work and Pensions administrative data, the Family Resources Survey, Home Office Migrant Journey data, and published benefit caseload and rates.

Reckless

The number of migrant workers here has risen by 2.1 million since the pandemic. The report points out, “The most reckless example of this ‘human quantitative easing’ came after the Covid-19 pandemic when the then-government turbocharged migration with the explicit aim of depressing wages to contain inflation.

“The number of British nationals on payrolls has fallen in nine of the UK’s 12 regions since 2020, while the number of non-EU nationals on payrolls rose in every single region.”
